My Good Friends,
I’m really very pleased to say that we are about to release HONOR AMONG THIEVES: A RETROSPECTIVE, WITH 7 ADDITIONAL LIVE SONGS FROM THE LATE 1970’s.
HONOR AMONG THIEVES: A RETROSPECTIVE marks the first time that the album will be available on CD (and downloads as well) including the original 9 songs AND 30 additional minutes of 7 original songs recorded Live in Concert between 1977 and 79. The Retrospective will include 16 songs in all.
As many of you know, HONOR was my first album, recorded (by Roy Smith at Turtle Beach) and released in 1983. The album – some 20 years later – was reviewed in a book in Sweden, called *THE ACID ARCHIVES by Patrick Lundborg. In “The ultimate guide to underground sounds and rare jewels”* of the 5,000 reviews included, HONOR is one of the very few that received a completely positive account. That review led to International underground interest on all continents.
With vinyl, it’s impossible to include little more than 40 or 50 minutes of music, but with CD, we’re able to include the 46 minutes of the original album, as well as the additional 30 minutes of Live songs recorded in concert by my great friend and cohort Doug Smith of Shab Row Recording. Of those 7 songs, 6 have never been released anywhere else. They include, You’re Gonna Bleed (Version One), Terrorists (A Love Song), Salome, Aren’t We All Soldiers, I Hear Them Singing, Hospital Song& Are These Hands Mine, all original songs that I wrote in the 70s. (Please Note: This is a different version of Are These Hands Mine- recorded with entirely different musicians – from the one that appeared on Live in the Empire of Fools, which came out in 2004). These Live recordings will accompany the original 9 songs: _Honor Among Thieves, He Wears His Black Heart on His Sleeve, Lookin’ For You (A Vision of Lost Love), The Deserter, Yell At The Moon, Seven Stars Over Sicily, Now That I’m Your Lover, The Old Code, and August Sixth, 8:15 A.M._*
The Songs are already recorded and recently re-mastered, by Doug Smith & Doug Benson. Right now, we are working on the Art layout of photographs and all the lyrics for the enclosed booklet. In addition, Jim Allen, a NYC-based music critic / journalist whose work has appeared in Rolling Stone, Billboard, NPR Music, Culture Sonar and the Village Voice, has graciously written the liner notes included on the inside cover. As soon as the layout is finished, we’ll duplicate and distribute, and mail your copies! Since most of the work is already done, we've decided not to do an elaborate Kickstarter-like campaign, but if you send us at least $16 or more, we'll put you down for a pre-ordered copy...
To Pre-order your copy / copies please send a check or money order for $16 each (postage is included in that price) to: John Terlazzo, 511 Madison Ave. York, PA. USA 17404. Please Note: If you live outside the U.S. there will be additional postage. Please email me for that information as it pertains specifically to your locale.
Don't hesitate to let me know if you have any questions.
All Love, John
